Let's Talk: Internet Drama

Internet drama. It's something that you can't escape from if you have anything to do with the Internet. Sometimes it can just be a bit annoying that you are getting loads of notifications about something really not worth arguing about, sometimes it can even be funny that people find it so important to prove their point. But there are also times when it passes the line and just becomes mean and rude.

Like all social media platforms, blogging can bring on heated comments about copied content, offensive wording or just someone looking for an argument. And in my experience, girls are usually more likely to engage in online arguments and fights, simply because we prefer not to do it face to face or have a fist fight (like more guys probably would), and it is so easy to say things through a computer screen. Things can be said that would never be said face to face - it's easier and it doesn't feel as if you're actually saying it to the person because you can't see their face.

As an example (I won't use any names, but most of you probably know who I'm talking about), the other day I was reading a blog post which I was quite interested in, but when I went to leave a comment, I found that there were already 21 other comments. This wasn't odd in any way, but when I read these comments, I found that all of them were from the author of the blog and one of her readers. Basically, the author was being accused of copying content without asking, etc. etc. in a very rude way. So, I re-read the post, but there was nothing in this post that had been copied - there were similar ideas, but I had already seen plenty of bloggers with the same ideas, so... what was this person's problem?? She clearly wasn't the only one to have this idea, so it obviously hadn't been copied from her - it was a great idea anyway, of course someone else was going to do it.

Anyway, the reader who had posted these comments had clearly just been looking for an argument, and she'd gone about it in a really rude way, which I could tell hurt the feelings of the author (of the post).

You don't always have to have the last word in an argument, the best thing is to just let it go and move on, because internet drama is usually just wasting everyone's time.

So I just wanted to post this because I feel like people can be ruder online than in real life, and they just need to wake up and realise that it's just not worth it. Also, if anyone knows who I'm talking about, please don't mention any names in the comments because I don't want to offend anyone or start another argument. Thanks :)

Lots of love, Little Robin
